Punjab Bank Employees Federation organized a Seminar on the occasion of 46th Bank Nationalization Day

Com.S’K’Gautam, General Secretary, Punjab Bank Employees Federation. While addressing in his opening remarks recapitulated that All Association the largest organization of Bank men in this country is completing the 70 years of its purpose full existence and during the period has served the bank employees to its optimum in stabilizing their Economic status besides other service conditions. At this momentous occasion AIBEA has decided to celebrate the occasion by conducting various programs to educate the bank men particularly its younger generation about the history and contributions of AIBEA to espouse the cause of Bank employees and also make them aware about the Government – Bankers contemplations to dilute the Public sector character of Banks to sub serve the cause of corporate and capitalists dis serving the interests of common people purpose of such seminar is to make the members aware about the impending dangers and surmounting challenges consequential from the neo economic policies particularly in the name of Banking sector ie forms and to prepare them organizationally to resist such onslaughts through militant organizational actions.
On this occasion Prof.Akhil Ranjan Dutta, Deptt. of political Science, Gauhati University while addressing the gathering told Nationalization of Banks in 1969 was accompanied by a series of other attempts on the part of the Govt., which were indeed revolutionary in nature once we compare them with the move towards de- nationalization in the pretext of Efficiency, Transparency, Competitiveness etc. undertaken by the neo liberal market fundamentalists. The Aim of Bank nationalization on the Govt. was not entirely to benefit the commons however the commons have also been extensively benefited from it. The move on the part of the Govt’ had its own Political economy. Nationalization of banks contributed towards economic vibrancy among the downtrodden particularly among the rural community.He told that De-nationalization is nothing but unmaking the Nation & Citizenship.
Dr’-Jagwant Singh HoD & Registrar, pG Deptt. of commerce & Management, GGDSD College Chandigarh while addressing the gathering told Nationalized Banks has contributed a lot in the Development of the country in every field viz Infrastructure.Power Sector, Agriculture etc. Need of the hour is to strengthen the Trade Unions to defend the Public Sector Banks and to defeat DE-nationalization,Com.P.R.Mehta, President explained the implications of the Policies of the Bankers Government particularly in relation to mergers and acquisitions under scoring that globally even in the developed economies may be in USA, UK, Israel the banking regulators are impressing upon the banks to trim their size to reduce the impact in case of any eventuality. The down turn in economies in these countries in 2008 area testimony to the said fact but in Indian contest Banking survived nu affected being it in public domain. He reiterated that the policies of the Govt. will be fought with full organizational strength.
