Patiala: World Cancer Day was observed in Mata Kaushalya Hospital, Patiala on 04.02.2016. On this Occasion Sh.Kapil Aggarwal, Secretary, DLSA, Patiala, Sh. M.L.Malhotra, Retired District & Sessions Judge, Dr. Rajiv Bhalla, CMO Patiala, Dr. Anju Gupta, Medical Supdt. MKH Patiala, Dr. Gurmeet Singh, District Epidemiologist, Dr. Vikas Goyal, Medical Specialist and Dr. Nandini were present. On this occasion Audience which includes Asha workers, Medical Students and attendants of patients were made aware about the early detection and timely prevention of cancer by the medical Specialists. One should get his/her medical checkup regularly. It was also told that consumption of tobacco is one of the largest cause of spreading cancer and that approximately 10 lacs deaths per annum have been occurred due to tobacco use. Civil Surgeon told the audience that Chief Minister Punjab Cancer Relief Fund Scheme has been implemented throughout Punjab, whereby 16 hospitals are empanelled in Punjab State (including Govt. Medical College, Patiala) wherein cashless medical treatment of Rs. 1.5 lakh is provided to each cancer patient irrespective of his financial capacity. During the year 2015 in district Patiala only this benefit is extended to 450 cancer patients for value of approx 5.23 crores. To avail this facility, the patient has to apply to office of Civil Surgeon, and fill a simple performa and thereafter financial aid is being provided within a period of three working days. While speaking to the audience Sh. Kapil Aggarwal, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala told that the healthy life style and regular exercise can decrease the risk of cancer. One should also participate in protection of environment and promote cleanliness. It is also helpful in prevention of cancer.
