Ramesh Kadam Arrested in Corruption Case

Mumbai: Ramesh Kadam, who represents the Mohol constituency in Maharashtra’s Solapur district, has been accused of fraud and embezzlement of funds to the tune of Rs. 300 crore from a state-run corporation. The case was registered last month.The state Criminal Investigation Department or CID had launched a manhunt for the lawmaker after he managed to give them a slip following searches at his residence and offices in Solapur. He has been on the run for close to a month.
Police say investigations have revealed that Mr Kadam, as the chairman of the Annabhau Sathe Development Corporation, had diverted funds to bodies that were controlled by him.The institution, a non-profit, is meant to provide financial assistance backward communities. Last month, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had said the police will arrest Mr Kadam soon. But the lawmaker went on the run and was picked up this morning from a luxury hotel in Pune.
He is likely to be produced in Dindoshi court in Mumbai .Mr Fadnavis has also said the investigation will look into whether Mr Kadam had shared the “ill-gotten funds” with anyone else.The Congress and the NCP — which ruled the state for a decade before the BJP came to power in the state last year – had been mired in allegations of corruption.NCP leaders Ajit Pawar and Sunil Tatkare have been named in the irrigation scam. During the campaigning for the state’s assembly elections, which was held last year in October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called the NCP ‘Naturally Corrupt Party’.
