Legal Awareness Seminar held in Govt. Middle School, Khang

Patiala : Under the able guidance and supervision of Sh. Harminder Singh Madaan, Learned District & Sessions Judge cum Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala today organized a Seminar on legal awareness at Govt. Middle School, Khang. Wherein Sh. Harminder Singh Madaan made aware the students about the legal services and told the students that Article 39A of the Constitution implies duty on the State to provide free and competent legal services to the weaker section of the society with a view to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or any other disability.
On this occasion the construction workers were also present. Thereby Sh. Madaan also made aware the contractors and labourers about the benefits of registration under Building and Other Construction Workers Act, 1996 and their legal rights. He also told that District Legal Services Authority, Patiala is the first in Punjab to take initiative for the welfare of the unorganised labour as per the scheme. We hope that the unorganised labour of the district will get their due benefits. We aim to make Patiala one of the leading districts, working for the welfare of the unorganised sector in the country.While talking to the media person Sh. Ashish Kumar Bansal, Learned Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala told that the worker who had worked for 90 days in a year in Punjab has the rights to register themselves in the Punjab BOCW welfare board and are entitled to get the benefits under the schemes of Punjab BOCW welfare Board i.e. in case of accidental death Rs. 4 lac, in case of natural death Rs. 3 lac, BPSBY card scheme treatment upto 50,000 per year, scholarship for their children upto any class etc. He also told the labourers if they face any problem in registration or getting benefits, they may contact the office of Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala or Toll Free no. 1968.
On this occasion, BDPO, Patran, Principal and teachers of Govt. Middle School, Khang, Sh. Ranjit Singh, Guidance Counsellor and Sh. Parwinder Singh, Advocate were also present.
