Ludhiana,:Reiterating its commitment for producing skilled manpower for the local industry, the Punjab government has started a short term diploma course in Hotel Management at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) on Gill Road, here. The manpower trained through this course would be absorbed in the booming Hotel industry of Punjab as well as across the country. A total of 34 students, including girls, have completed this short term course and they were awarded with certificates at a function held on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day in the ITI Campus, here today. The certificates were given away by Former Cabinet Minister and Chairman of District Planning Board Jathedar Hira Singh Gabria and Ludhiana East MLA Mr Ranjit Singh Dhillon today.
While addressing the students, Jathedar Hira Singh Gabria said that this short term course has been approved by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, and is of 45 days duration. This course was formally launched by Jathedar Hira Singh Gabria in March this year and today, students of the first batch were awarded with degrees.Jathedar Hira Singh Gabria said that this particular course is conducted by the Institute of Hotel Management, Bathinda and is of 45 days duration. He informed that the first batch comprised of pass outs from class eighth to 12th. He said that along with free education, the students will also get education material and uniform free of cost. Besides this, the pass outs would also be paid a financial assistance of Rs 1,500.
MLA Mr Ranjit Singh Dhillon said that there is shortage of around 2 to 2.5 lakh skilled manpower in hotel industry of the country. He said that this course is part of Punjab government’s plan for empowering our today’s youth. He said that the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party government in Punjab is committed for overall development of the state and such courses would help today’s youth in becoming self dependent. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Mr Nirmal Singh SS, vice president, BC Welfare Board, industrialists Mr Charanjit Singh Vishkarma, Mr Gurmit Singh Kular, ITI (Boys) Principal Mr Baljinder Singh, besides several others.
