Guru Nanak Dev ji is known as the founder of Sikh Religion in the whole world. But how many people know that the foundation of Anti corruption movement was put by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. ਕਲਿ ਕਾਤੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਕਾਸਾਈ
ਧਰਮੁ ਪੰਖ ਕਰਿ ਉਡਰਿਆ ॥
ਕੂੜੁ ਅਮਾਵਸ ਸਚੁ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ
ਦੀਸੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਹ ਚੜਿਆ ॥
In these lines Guru Nanak Dev ji compares king with butchers and about the dark night of falschood and talks about the disappearance of the bright moon of truth. This was the very first voice that was raised against corruption by Guru Nanak Dev .ji and the foundation of anti corruption movement was put by him. Since it was very difficult to raise the voice against corruption, against the reign of the kings. At that time Guru Nanak Dev ji said.
ਰਾਜੇ ਸੀਹ ਮੁਕਦਮ ਕੁਤੇ ॥
ਜਾਇ ਜਗਾਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਸੁਤੇ ॥
ਚਾਕਰ ਨਹਦਾ ਪਾਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਘਾਉ ॥
ਰਤੁ ਪਿਤੁ ਕੁਤਿਹੋ ਚਟਿ ਜਾਹੁ ॥
In these lines Guru Nanak Dev ji attempted to raise his voice against corruption prevailing at that time. Guru Nanak Dev ji, after getting ‘Ishwar Noor’ turned into a saint and visited many countries and preach of ‘Satnam’ these are called ‘UDAASIYAN’. Guru Nanak Dev ji started his first ‘UDDASI’ in 1496. And during this he visited Lahore and Sayadpur.
Here is a famous legend of that time related with him is called ‘Sakhi.’ According to after visiting Lahore Guru Nanak Dev ji go for Sayadpur (Ajoka Aminabad) and there a rich person ‘Malik Bhago’ invited Guru Nanak Dev for taking meal, But Guru Nanak Dev ji refused to take meal on the other hand he accepted the invitation of ‘Lalo’ who was a poor and hard working carpenter. When people and ‘Malik Bhago’ asked the rea on Guru Nanak Dev ji told that he did not accept Malik’ Bhago’s’ invitation because the money earned by Malik Bhago is earned by sticking the blood of poors on the other hand the money earned by ‘Lalo’ is the money that is earned by honesty and according to a legendery concept he proved it by taking one chapatti of Lalo in one hand and the chapati of Malik Bhago in the other hand and when he squeeze the both chapaties blood come’s out from the Malik Bhago’s chapati and ‘rom the chapatti of poor ‘Lalo’ milk comes out. Here Guru Nanak Dev ji stood against corruption and honesty an.d’ I hard work. This was the first step of Guru Nanak Dev Ji towards beginning of Anti Corruption Movement.
ਦਦੈ ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਊ ਕਿਸੈ ਦੋਸੁ ਕਰੰਮਾ ਆਪਣਿਆ ॥
ਜੋ ਮੈ ਕੀਆ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੀਜੈ ਅਵਰ ਜਨਾ ॥੨੧॥
At the time of Guru’ Nanak Dev ji the king of Kabul was taking the dream to win India and for this purpose he attempted again and again.’ In 1519-20 he acquired Siy.alcot. During this attack he oppressed the’ people of Sayadpur. Guru Nanak Dev ji saw’ the cruelty and persecutions of ‘ Babar and here he starts writing ‘Babar Bani’ in which he writes about the cruelty & persecutions of Babar and consequently the grief of the people. Guru Nanak Dev ji writes:
ਜੈਸੀ ਮੈ ਆਵੈ ਖਸਮ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਤੈਸੜਾ ਕਰੀ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥
ਪਾਪ ਕੀ ਜੰਞ ਲੈ ਕਾਬਲਹੁ ਧਾਇਆ ਜੋਰੀ ਮੰਗੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥
ਸਰਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਦੁਇ ਛਪਿ ਖਲੋਏ ਕੂੜੁ ਫਿਰੈ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥
ਕਾਜੀਆ ਬਾਮਣਾ ਕੀ ਗਲ ਥਕੀ ਅਗਦੁ ਪੜੈ ਸੈਤਾਨੁ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥
ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨੀਆ ਪੜਹਿ ਕਤੇਬਾ ਕਸਟ ਮਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਖੁਦਾਇ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥
ਜਾਤਿ ਸਨਾਤੀ ਹੋਰਿ ਹਿਦਵਾਣੀਆ ਏਹਿ ਭੀ ਲੇਖੈ ਲਾਇ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥
ਖੂਨ ਕੇ ਸੋਹਿਲੇ ਗਾਵੀਅਹਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਤੁ ਕਾ ਕੁੰਗੂ ਪਾਇ ਵੇ ਲਾਲੋ ॥੧॥
At that time nobody have courage to stand against these attacks the voice raised against oppression & cruelty of Babar that step of Guru Nanak Dev ji was the’ beginning of a big movement. It is said that whenever Guru Nanak Dev ji saw any,’ incident of corruption and persecutions he stood against it so that he is .called the founder of anti-corruption movement.
During his fifth ‘UDAASt’ Guru Nanak Dev ji reached Sayadpur Babar attacked on the town and killed thousand of innocent people. And imprisoned many others. Guru Nanak Dev ji and his disciple Bhai Mardana were also in them. But when Babar come to know the truth that Guru Nanak Dev ji is a well known Fakir Babar released him with honour. But Guru Nanak Dev ji refused to come out of the prison until! all the other innocent prisoner were not released and for that reason Babar has to release all the prisoners that was a big victory against corruption.
The strong determination of Guru Nanak Dev ji of ‘Vand Chhakna’ and ‘Kirat Karni’ brought a great change in people’s life. Guru Nanak Dev ji was the first great religious founder who raise his voice against social injustice Guru Nanak Dev ji emphasized to do kirat. His thought was that if everyone do his work with honesty the life definitely will be always good and the economic condition of the country will be improved. He says:
ਘਾਲਿ ਖਾਇ ਕਿਛੁ ਹਥਹੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਸੇਇ ॥੧॥
According to him the person who do not do kirat will always depend on others. If a person do not believe in doing hard work, must have an evil eye on other’s earnings means. he will adopt the path of corruption and in this way he will try to obtain those things. Guru Nanak Dev ji says:
This preaches of Guru Nanak Dev ji was as the founder of Anti Corruption Movement or can be called that he is considered as the father of anti corruption movement by giving this preach. He says:
ਵਸਤੁ ਪਰਾਈ ਅਪੁਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੈ
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਾਲੇ ॥
According to Guru Nanak Dev ji what the person do will find the same thing at last. He believe in the policy of tit for tat and he says that whatever yo’u will sow for other you have to reap that one day. Here it is clear that corrupt person will sow the crop of corruption he has to reap that crop of corruption means he at last will find corruption he has to face corruption ultimately last. Means doing evild d.eeds always brought Ievil results:
ਜੈਸਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਤੈਸਾ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਵੈ ॥
In these lines according to Guru Nanak Dev ji to blame someone is wrong every thing is the result of our ‘Karams’ means deeds means that what a person do for others will find the same in future so to blame someone is absolutely wrong. Guru Nanak Dev ji says that a person who do evil deeds who do corruption have no right to expect honesty from others.
Many historians give him the grade of revolutioner and the names Bhai Kahan Singh, Machaliph, Prof. Teja Singh etc. can also be mention. Whose aim was to transform the thoughts from where they exist and a new building has to be built on the old foundation.

At that time Guru Nanak Dav ji’s important step against partiality was giving the ‘Gurgaddi’ to ‘Bhai lehna’ and to make him his successor and named him Guru Angad Dev ji.
