Dr. Gandhi Member Parliament Patiala in his statement today opposed the proposed recommendations of Parliament committee to increase the Pay and pension of Members and Ex-Members of both the houses of Parliament.
In a country where 50% children are malnourished, where hunger index, human development index & gender development index are among the lowest in the world, according to latest UNDP report, even below several countries of Sub- Saharan Africa, where lacs of farmers are committing suicide, where lacs of Ex-Servicemen are struggling for One Rank One Pension for decades,purposed hike in salaries of Parliamentarians, majority of whom are multimillionaires and are already enjoying benefits & perks worth lacs of Rupees per month including highly subsidised food, is a mockery of the poor & wretched of the earth of this land. Instead, the parliamentarians and the Govt. should adopt austerity measures to reduce the burden on state exchanger & use this money for the welfare of the common man.
Demanding a complete ban on V.I.P culture in the country, Dr. Gandhi pleaded that the Indian Politicians should be sensitive to pitiable condition of majority of the countrymen. The vulgar show of wealth & power amounted to a joke & cruelty on the people of India, Dr. Gandhi added.
In another statement Dr. Gandhi criticised the Badal Govt. for deciding to build All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), at Bathinda which is situated at one corner of the State, mainly because of political reasons, instead of central place in Punjab which could have benefited the great majority of people in the state. Dr. Gandhi demanded immediate scrapping of the decision & to choose a site near Jalandhar or Ludhiana for this purpose.
Dr. Gandhi also apprehended that the purposed Rape Crises Centre which was to be build at Patiala was also being shifted to Bhatinda, at the instance of a central Minister from Punjab. He demanded that being the first responder to the central request, the Rape Crises centre should be build at Patiala as promised by the Hon’ble Maneka Gandhi ji, Minister for Women and child
