Police clean chit to Akalis accused of bribing voters

Muktsar, : The Lambi police today said the charge of bribing voters levelled against SAD leader Gurbakhshish Singh ‘Vicky’ Middukhera and his son Gurlal Singh could not be proved.
PPCC chief Capt Amarinder Singh and AAP Lambi nominee Jarnail Singh had accused the two of distributing money at Hakuwala village in Lambi on February 3. Notably, they had fled the spot after leaving their Toyota Fortuner vehicle behind when some villagers gheraoed them.
ASI Sukhdev Singh said: “There is no evidence against Gurlal or any other person accompanying him that they distributed money. Even the video surveillance team of the election authorities was called on the spot within a few minutes of the incident, which could not find anything objectionable from the vehicle.”
He said the police had arrested six of the seven accused booked by name on the complaint lodged by Gurlal Singh alleging that he was illegally detained and his SUV was damaged. Gurlal had also accused Raninder Singh, son of Capt Amarinder Singh, of instigating people and damaging his vehicle.
