Patiala,: The Indian Army has a long standing tradition of fostering the spirit of adventure amongst all ranks and has been a role model in undertaking such activities. Carrying forward these traditions, a cycling team comprising one Officer and 15 Other Ranks from 7 MECHANISED INFANTRY (1 DOGRA) of the ‘Black Elephant’ Division will undertake a 10 days Mountain Terrain Cycle Expedition in the lofty heights of the Himalayas.
The expedition, which was flagged off by Maj Gen Jagatbir Singh, VSM, General Officer Commanding, Black Elephant Division will cover a distance of 343 Kms, from Rampur in Himachal Pradesh to Losar in the beautiful Spiti Valley. The expedition will be passing through orchards, forest areas, vast meadows witnessing the diverse flora and fauna.
The adventure activity will help in developing a sense of purpose, determination, courage and perseverance against all odds, and will inculcate the spirit of adventure amongst the troops while enhancing their stamina, endurance, esprit-de-corps and leadership qualities, which are essential for day to day functioning both during peace and war. In addition, the team will also generate awareness for ecological/environmental preservation amongst the locals and encourage the youth to join the Indian Army. The expedition team will also interact with the Ex-Servicemen of the Dogra Regiment enroute and promote military brotherhood and serve as a symbolic gesture of recognising the contributions of the veterans from this remote region of Himachal Pradesh.
